In a small but wealthy town, there's an old man who was a taylor before, is now making shoes to support his daily life. He can sew and make beautiful shoes. Everyone in the town buys his shoes because no one can resist his shoes and everyone will show off the shoes that he or her had just bought from the old man. Of course, the old man make a good deal of money from the shoes he made. The old man, Mr Shoesman, is particularly good at sewing sport shoes. As time goes by, having a pair of shoes made by him has become a trend. His nimbleness on sewing helps him to sew a number of shoes in a day!
One day as usual, Mr. Shoesman is making sport shoes. He stretches himself to relieve all the pressure and tension on his shoulder after sewing shoes for hours. Suddenly, there's an amount of shoes that he sew has gone! After searching it for hours, he realized that the shoes have been stolen by the fans of his shoes.
The second day, he tried to double the amount of shoes to substitute back the shoes that have been stolen yesterday. And again, the same amount of shoes like yesterday have got stolen when he was concentrating on sewing the shoes.
Full with furious, he continued to make three times of the shoes to gain back the losses that he made because of the shoes that have been stolen. And similar situation appeared again where same number of shoes got stolen by the anonymous.
"Alright, it's going to be ok, I'm going to quadruplet the amount of shoes and earn all the revenue back this time." He started to sew a huge number of shoes one by one in a day full with mumbling and grumping. He was disappointed when no shoes were left when he finish sewing after the whole night.
Mr. Shoesman was too angry and finally got heart attack and died.
Why are the shoes made by the old man will be 0 although he has quadruplet the number of shoes?
Let us use math to find out the mistery behind it. :p
x - number of shoes made by Mr. Shoesman
y - number of shoes stolen by anonymous
First day,
x-y = 41-24=17
Second day,
2(x-y)-y = 2(17)-24 = 10
Third day,
3(2x-3y)-y = 3(10)-24 =6
Fourth day,
4(6x-9y)-y =24-24 = 0
Therefore, there are no shoes left on the fourth day.
