I have a female cat with black and white fur named Milah. She loves to catch lizards so much. Pleasantly, her interest had made my home free of lizards after four months. What a mystery! As I am so close to my pet, so I used to observe her odd behaviour and I found out that she actually had organised patterns of eating those lizards. Here are the patterns:

For the first month, there are quite a number of lizards and my cat can only eat just a certain fixed amount of them. Then, the remaining lizards increased their number twice in the second month. Milah continued her habit of catching, killing and eating the same amount of lizards in the second month and surprisingly, the remaining lizards tripled their number. This scenario went on until the fourth month and eventually there are no more lizards at home. As I love Mathematics so much, I tried to figure out this mysterious case about my pet.

Therefore, here are the solutions:

The initial number of lizards in the first month: x

The fixed amount of lizards that can be eaten by Milah in each month: y

First month: x-y

Second month: 2(x-y)-y = 2x-3y

Third month: 3(2x-3y)-y = 6x-10y

Fourth month: 4(6x-10y)-y = 24x-41y = 0

Therefore, x = 41 and y = 24.

Hope you enjoy this! :D
