So far we've learned how to use features in Powerpoint (inserting swf files and drawing faces using the curve tool), Excel and Word (mail merging) and also how to use ping/IPconfig to find out whether another person is online or not. It's possible if we know the IP address of that person's computer. We also tried using teamviewer to access other people's computers (it's cool but kind of dangerous in another way if someone else gets your partner ID and password!)

Ready to go off for the CNY holidays :)

We learned how to use the Team Viewer software where you can view computer's desktop from your own. Not just that, but this software allows us to make changes, tweak settings and basically carry out whatever you want to do but on another's desktop. An addition to that, the software further allows us to transfer files from the other monitor to yours.

The second part of the class, we get to learn about finding out your own IP address, checking your network status and finding out if another monitor is currently active or not. To do the latter bit, we learned how to retrieve another monitor's IP address.

From the previous class, we discovered a new tool known as Teamviewer. Personally i think that Teamviewer is a simple and easier way to share files between computers. Before hand, i did not think that such things could be done via a computer.

I feel that this tool can be very beneficial and efficient if utilized. It is a simple and user friendly.

In the last class, we learnt how to use Team Viewer, which is an application that allows us to share screens with another computer. It's more than just viewing their screen, however, as using the Remote Control function, we can even control what is happening on the other screen. We can also use Team Viewer to share files between computers.

We also learnt to use the 'command' function on our computers. With this, we found out our ip addresses by typing in 'ipconfig'. Dr Ravi taught us all the useful things about knowing your own (and others) ip addresses- which is apparently the basis of hacking. Not that that's what we were taught ;) By typing in 'ping@ followed by an ip address, we are able to detect whether the computer linked to that ip address is switched on/ connected to the internet.

Another thing we learnt was to add 'readnotify.com' to the end of an email address when sending an email. This allows us to see whether the receiver has opened the mail or not, and even the amount of time that the mail was open. More importantly, we can find out the receiver's ip address, and subsequently their location, usage etc etc. Not meant for us to use for stalking, or hacking, we were taught these techniques to protect ourselves from becoming victims ourselves.
