AS computing 2011 July Batch
Dear all,
Welcome to AS computing class. I am Dr.Ravi your facilitator for this course. This course consists of two modules, theory and practicals. In theory we will have 12 chapters and in practicals we do have programming classes. You will sit for theory and practical exams at the end of the course, which is conducted by CIE.

I do know that it reads the data stored in CD & DVD ROMs using the 'small optical eye' shown in the video that uses laser to read and interpret the data. And discs are burned using the same 'eye' which 'burns' data into a CD or DVD-RW using laser. Therefore, the laser 'eye' is used both to input data into a disc or extract data from it. I hope i'm right Raj. :/

ddr mean double data rate or dual data rate...the diffrence between the ddr1,2 n 3 is the number of channel it has...the higher the channel(like a bandwidth) it has the larger the amount of information it can transfer..ddr2 has dual channel and ddr3 has triple channel...usually ddr supported motherboard or for short mobo only has 2 slot of ram, while ddr2 supported mobo has 4 slot of ram and ddr3 supported mobo has 6 slot of ram

the different versions of processors shows an improvement in the speed and a much better processor in some way. same thing like windows 98 to windows XP to windows vista and such

Hi Mujahid,
Physically they are identical. You can't tell them apart just by looking (unless they are labelled of course). However, one way to find out is to insert it into a computer and let the computer tell you what it is...
I see no other way of doing this...sorry

yup beside that some processor also has feature called hyper-threading which allows them to double the amount of processing thread, for example..usually 1 core processor can only process 1 thread but using HT technology it can process 2 thread at a time..so if a processor with 4 core n HT technology it would have 8 processing thread at a time...which equal to higher speed!...

this is what i understood from the video. a processor is like a brain to the computer. the processor handles all the task done by the computer, the speed of the tasks done depends on the type of processor. dual core processor is like having 2 brains in 1 computer. with dual core, more tasks can be done at a time at a much higher speed

Sorry Mujahid, i just noticed you asked for the difference between a CD drive and and a DVD one..I'm sorry but i'm not sure how one can tell the difference between both without looking at the CD or DVD logo...

open source software is a software which free for all and it source code( the code that made the software) is distributed to the public, so people not only can has the software for free but they also can modify the software according to their need or creativity!...usually the software is distributed under GNU license( general public license)...what this mean is..you cannot sell the software or sell the modified software..the modified software has to be free if you want to distributed it

Well, the computer would be set back to factory default (like when it was new) so most programs that have been installed would be gone. However, formatting is a good way to get your computer back to working order if the computer is slow or unresponsive due to corrupted files etc.
